The High Prairie District Athletic Association has organized its sport competitions based on three seasons - Fall, Winter, Spring. Although there may be some overlap of seasons for some sports, all fall within a defined timeline established by OFSAA. Each season is defined by league play or a lead up tournament followed by playoffs ending in a Kawartha Championship. Top teams from the Kawartha competitions advance to a COSSA A, AA, or AAA championship. The COSSA gold medalists will advance to the all Ontario Championship hosted by OFSAA and its delegates. In individual sports several finalists may advance to OFSAA. Participating in an OFSAA competition is the highlight for student athletes and coaches.

Hockey tryouts start in one month so we want to encourage all potential players to start conditioning now to be ready.  Placement on the team last year does not guarantee a spot on this year's roster for the school team but everyone is eligible for the house league team.

The ‘athlete overcomes injury’ narrative may be one of the most hackneyed storylines in sport, but it seemed more appropriate than ever after Andrew Pozzi overcome a nightmare few years to win the first international title of his career in Belgrade on Friday night.

Pozzi’s persistent foot injuries have been so numerous that he has lost count of the operations he has endured, putting the figure at “five or six”.

The problems were so severe that last year he was unable to even hurdle in training and was instead forced to fine-tune his technique on grass in a bid to prevent another flare-up.

Starting September 1, all players on any teams where balls or any object is thrown must wear face protection.   Do we really need to say any more than this?
